Ethiopia: Main battle looms as PM Abiy points ultimatum to Tigray

Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed has given Tigrayan forces a 72-hour ultimatum to give up.

On Sunday, Abiy introduced that safety forces have been now “within the third and closing section” of a army operation.

“We urge you to give up peacefully throughout the subsequent 72 hours, recognizing that you’re at a degree of no return,” he warned.

Abiy urged Mekelle individuals to assist defeat the Tigray Folks’s Liberation Entrance (TPLF) by “standing in solidarity with the nationwide defence.”

Since October, troopers have been at warfare with the regional authorities of Tigray.

Battle erupted after Tigray’s unilateral choice to elect a regional administration.

TPLF leaders and members have vowed to not backtrack.

In a press release, they declared that “the individuals of Tigray won’t ever kneel right down to actions of aggressors”.

They accused federal forces of killing harmless civilians, an allegation the federal government has denied.

The United Nations (UN) has warned of a full-scale humanitarian disaster.

A whole bunch have been killed and greater than 30,000 refugees have crossed to Sudan.
